For me, working as a dramaturg means creative, critical, joyful work with colleagues on choreographic projects, with shared goals, interests, and values.

It begins with a conversation about interests, needs, expectations, and ideas, and develops from there with the project. Sometimes the conversation is initially vague, trusting in the process – which it also develops – sometimes it is clearly focused on a specific goal from the outset. In any case, it is always closely aligned with the wishes and needs of those involved and the conditions of the project.

As a dramaturg, I am part of the conversation as a moderator and as a participant like everyone else, with experiences, interests, and needs that never compromise my tasks as a moderator.

The position of dramaturgy is constantly exposed to the dynamics of the project and can influence them. Therefore, its position, role, and function should be continually reviewed, described, and, if necessary, realigned so that it retains its specific focus on the one hand and is able to respond to changing situations on the other.

I see my work as a dramaturg as a conversation about content, aesthetics, and strategy, which I focus on the specific collaboration: on developing a viable concept, on designing content and material, on a specific type of collaboration that always keeps both the project and those involved in mind, and on a specific idea of a process and product that fits the current project. The diverse possibilities that arise from this are, for me, both the challenge and the appeal of working as a dramaturg in choreographic projects.
